Who the hell wants to detach?

Easy to spell, right?

Hard to attain, though. 

Why would one want to detach anyways?

Detachment is a must for success in the markets.

Any market.

Detachment is not really a human instinct.

We are born because we are attached. 

Attachment comes naturally to us. 

Detachment does not. 

Cut to the markets. 

Market psychology works in reverse to our natural instincts. That’s why, losers are many, and winners a few. 

That, by the way, is the similarity between detachment and market success.

We’ll need to learn to detach, if we want winning market-play. 

This is an achievement-oriented society. 

We like resumés.

We like to post it the moment we nail it. 

We like to book profit the moment we have a mover. 

We like to hide our short-comings. 

Weakness?

What weakness?

We nurture our losers, hoping they’ll at least make it to break-even one day so that we can book them. 

See?

Yes, market psychology works in reverse to our way of functioning. 

What does detachment do?

It takes us away from the euphoria of a mover. 

We learn to let the mover … move. 

We learn to not book it. 

It then moves, and moves. 

Eventually, it starts to fall.

We set a stop and let the market throw us out. 

That’s how one exits an underlying showing a profit. 

What has detachment done here?

It has caused us to book a big profit instead of a small one. 

What else does detachment do?

It reforms us such that we recognize and acknowledge weakness, and then cut the weakness off immediately upon such recognition and acknowledgement, as per the definitions of our trading systems.

What has detachment done here?

It has caused us to suffer a smaller loss now rather than a potentially much larger loss later.

Repetition of this cycle – again and again and again – sorts us out for life.

Control

Longevity.

We look for it in the markets too. 

It’s natural.

Our first instinct is to survive. 

Our second instinct is to survive well. 

In the markets, both these instincts are addressed by our definition and understanding of control. 

Are we control-freaks? 

There’s no harm in admitting it, it’ll save us from losses. 

Well, if we are, we’re better off seeking another career where control-freaking is an asset.

In the markets, it’s not.

Yeah, surprise surprise, Mrs. Market is gonna keep hitting our stops again and again and again, till we get tired of second-guessing her and just sheer quit.

Or, if we’re adamant too, she’ll just drive us bankrupt. 

Are we giving her complete leeway?

Well, then she’ll drive us bankrupt anyways, with no stops in place.

Mrs. Market works against us when we exhibit extreme behaviour wrt control.

Let’s fine-tune control.

We’ll find the median for stop-size.

Something that’s workable.

We then move with her.

If she moves in our direction of the trade, we keep raising our stop with her, from a distance, quietly.

Control, mild, unadvertised.

She’ll stop us out eventually, perhaps after some profit.

Good. 

As in, workable. 

When she goes berserk in our direction of the trade, we’ll ignore her and just let her do her thing.

Minimum control.

No definition of targets.

Stop is far away. It’s deep in profits, and being raised quietly. She’ll need to stop us out with a big swing against us. Yeah, deep in profit, we’ve kept a large leeway between stop and CMP.

We’re not micromanaging her.

Motive?

We wish to allow her to go even more berserk in our direction of the trade.

We’re daring her too, as in “come and get our stop, if you have the guts to fall this far”.

Control.

Very subtle.

We’re controlling our environment, while simultaneously ignoring her.

Very workable. 

We’ll live long in the markets.

Heard another jazz version of the song on internet radio the other day.

Got me thinking.

We all do. Walk on the Moon, that is.

The Moon stands for something undiscovered.

Each human is unique.

Our next moments are undiscovered, yet.

We live them in our own way.

Yeah, we walk on the Moon, each day, every new moment.

Even in uncharted territory, one wants a smooth walk, doesn’t one?

There are three steps that ensure this.

1). Proper due diligence.

2). Smelling liability from a distance.

3). Walking the other way, away from liability.

Even a donkey understands what’s written above.

Enjoy your walk, on your Moon, on your own personal journey.

The lyricist has penned it aptly. He or she knows about giant steps, so due diligence has been done. He or she hopes that his or her “legs don’t break”,  so he or she is alert that liability could be lurking.

I wish to call this positive exhaustion.
